Lots of good news to go round from this weekend.
Firstly, well done to all our riders who competed at Round 1 of the National Youth Omnium at Lee Valley velodrome. This was the first qualifying round of the series, heading towards the national finals in July.
Youth A results included Eddie Boyle (15th), Ben Tamplin (19th), Noah Wheller (20th) and Luca Geddes Gasco (25th). In Youth C, Charlie Bunting rode to an incredible second place with top three finishes in 3 of the 4 events including a win in the elimination race. Well done to all riders who competed!
Other events in the NYO series are starting to come online, keep an eye on the page as more will open for entries in the weeks ahead, including the Preston Park event in May.
The other achievements of the weekend were from our youth volunteers who are working through the Cycling Award for Young Volunteers (CAYV) scheme. A number of riders put in enough hours last season to be put forward for the Level 1 coaching qualification, which was successfully completed this weekend by Noah, Ben, Idha, Luca and Milo. They will now be able to deliver coached activities at Inner Ring under the guidance of an adult qualified coach and we look forward to working with them to develop them as both coaches and riders. Hadley was also involved but sadly was unwell for the assessment weekend, so we look forward to him also joining the gang as soon as possible!
The trainer from British Cycling’s coach education team was none other than PPYCC founder Anthony Rogers, who has since communicated how proficient they were as riders and in their knowledge of the sport and cycle technique.
A great start to what is shaping up to be an exciting season, with lots of riders representing the club and doing us all proud. Well done everyone!
