SCRL Weds track league starts next week

We are excited about the start of SCRL Weds night track league next week (20th April), especially given how many of our younger riders have been enthusiastically learning track bike skills to get accredited recently, we can’t wait to see you there! Here are some things you will need to know.

How to register for SCRL

Please register ASAP if you would like to ride at the Wednesday night track league. You need to register for the season on RiderHQ which involves sending photos of your BC membership card. This is quite admin heavy for the SCRL team so please do not leave it until the last minute or they will be overwhelmed with registrations to verify. Once registered for the season you then need to pre-register in advance each week by MONDAY NIGHT, again via RiderHQ. Full details and links are at http://scrl.co.uk/register/

Getting accredited for SCRL

The weather looks good for this weekend so we are planning to do a track bike session for those who wish to complete their accreditation for track league. Accreditation demonstrates that you can ride a track bike safely in a group. You cannot ride in the league if you have not passed accreditation. The SCRL team have access to the PPYCC Accreditation list so when you register for SCRL, they will check for your name on our list.

Track cycling is weather dependent so if it turns out wet this Saturday for our accreditation session, we will run a track session at the next available, dry Saturday.

We will keep accrediting riders throughout the season, so don’t worry if you miss the start of the league, it runs until August so there is plenty of time to get accredited and start racing.

Borrowing track bikes

PPYCC has track bikes in three wheel sizes: 24 inch, 650C (26 inches) and 700C (27 inches). We have plenty of 650C and 700C bikes so once you have completed accreditation, if you are planning to race SCRL regularly then you can take a bike home for the season which will both save time with bike fits each week and be more covid-safe. We only have two 24 inch bikes though, so these may need to be passed around depending on who needs them.

As usual, no charge applies for bike loans but you are responsible for general maintenance of the bike and keeping it in good working order, replacing consumables like bar tape and tyres when needed.

Volunteer while cheering on your rider

SCRL relies on volunteers to keep running and you do not need any cycling knowledge at all for key roles such as marshalling. Please keep the league alive by helping out where you can, as if not enough people volunteer then racing will get cancelled that week. More at http://scrl.co.uk/volunteering/
