Inner Ring and Outer Ring are both on road bikes tomorrow. Please ensure riders have water, snacks and sunscreen.
For all riders safety, every rider should have everything they need for Saturday sessions in a bag (drink, snack, extra layer to wear) which they bring inside the track and leave on the grass at the start of the session. This prevents the need for riders to run across the track to retrieve stuff from adults, which has been happening during activities and races, and also encourages the children to be self-sufficient during the session. The coaches will make sure they have opportunities to break for drinks and snacks as needed.
For new members who have arranged in advance to loan a road bike, these are being readied by our mechanic, and will be available for pickup next Sat (3rd June). For anyone still needing a loan bike please let one of the team know at sign-on and we will assess their needs and see what we have. Generally speaking we don’t have them ready to take away the same day but will aim to identify a bike and have it reviewed, tuned up and ready to loan within a few weeks.
Outer Ring is road bikes tomorrow, and you will be starting to learn how to ride the Madison! For this we will be initially learning techniques on the grass and on foot, so please bring trainers. Madison is a really exciting paired race format in which PPYCC has some real pedigree given that ex-member Felix English raced in the event at the UCI World Cup series, Track Cycling World Championships and Tokyo Olympics. Outer Ring riders in the British Cycling talent scheme will have already experienced it on their BC sessions but it’s a really good fun race format that is suitable for all, so we are pleased that our new coach John – who is qualified by BC to deliver Madison coaching – is able to bring this to the wider club.
