PPYCC is looking for volunteers!

PPYCC AGM and Awards is coming up on Saturday 12th November, 3pm at Knoyle Church Hall. We will have the usual mix of fun, club updates, awards presentations, raffle and jumble sale. More on that in the weeks ahead!

How you could help the PPYCC committee

The first part of the AGM is the committee elections. The three Officer roles being elected are Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The additional Management Committee roles are Membership Secretary, Welfare Officer and Deputy Welfare Officer.

We welcome parents, or other adults within the club, to join our committee. You don’t need any specific skills, just enthusiasm and support for the club and cycling! We particularly welcome nominations from parents whose children are younger members of the club, and would contribute to ideas and actions to help to develop the club over the coming years.

If anyone is interested in standing for any role, please do put yourself forward and feel free to let me know if you’d like an informal chat about what is involved. It is fine for a role to have multiple nominations and we are also happy to talk about job-shares for any role.

We are particularly keen to recruit an additional Welfare Officer as one of these positions is currently vacant. It’s a minimal time commitment but a vital role that involves attending a 3 hour course, maintaining a general interest in the activity of the club and being prepared to pass on any concerns to the National Governing Body, should any arise. The role does not commit you to attend any meetings or having to turn up to club sessions every week. Thus this would particularly suit a parent who would like to help in an administrative capacity rather than helping trackside.

Or maybe take on a bite-sized role

There are also non-committee roles for specific, bite-sized tasks where we could really use some extra help and where you could make a big difference by giving just a couple of hours a month. We’re currently looking for people to help with the following tasks:

Inner Ring registration – We could use one or two adults from the newer generation of Inner Ring riders to take on this role. It involves welcoming riders, taking payments (requires own smartphone to connect to card reader), take a register and update registration spreadsheet on Google Drive. This could be as little as 8.45 until 9.15 every week.

Website content creators – Write a post for the website about a race or cycle trip you did. We’re always happy to have a range of voices. You can do as much or as little as you want – one article a year, one a month, whatever you like.

Race roundups writer – Write a monthly website post about race results from PPYCC riders over the past month. This would suit an older rider who is out racing regularly, or an adult who could monitor results from the British Cycling website or the parent grapevine!

Manage the loan bikes register – Maintain the loans register to track which riders have which bikes, tag returned bikes that need maintenance, assign bikes to volunteer bike mechanics and check them back in when fixed.

Maintain a bike – Take home a loan bike and perform basic maintenance like replacing cables, bar tape , brake blocks or tyres. All materials supplied and the finished bike will undergo a final check by a professional mechanic before being released to a new rider.

PPYCC is entirely volunteer led and could not operate without the help of its many supporters, so we would like to say a huge thankyou to all our current helpers, and of course do let me know if you’d like to help out in some capacity (whether one of the above roles or something entirely different!) by emailing chair@ppycc.org.uk
