Preston Park Youth Cycle Club is Brighton and Hove’s first cycle club specifically for young people. We run a programme of activities throughout the year, weekly from March to October (inclusive) and varied in the winter months. We are based at Preston Park cycle track, where most summer sessions take place, though we onlyalso visit other venues. Our Saturday summer sessions run from 09.00 [younger members] or 10.30 [older members] and last one and a half hours. The sessions are aimed at developing members cycling skills in a safe setting through coaching, racing and games. Those that like racing can try track and road racing in the summer and cyclo-cross and mountain biking in the winter. Our club has Club Mark status, the quality assurance standard for community sports clubs. We have won the British Cycling Club of the Year Award for 2009, Brighton and Hove Sports Club of the Year 2008 and amongst our coaches we have winners of the Sussex Sports Coach 2008 and the British Cycling Coach 2012. Our past and present members have enjoyed success at the highest level; most recently Noah Ridgway Brown won Under 12 National Omnium Champion for 2012, Jack Hoyle won the National Under 16 sprint and 500 metre pursuit titles and Felix English rides professionally for Rapha Condor JLT. For those who just like to ride their bikes without the furious effort of racing we have a host of other activities too. All sessions are supervised by qualified British Cycling coaches with the help of parents and friends of club members. Prospective members should arrive at the club being able to ride their bikes with a helmet, a drink and a snack. We are a ‘Go Ride’ club which means that we are recognised by British Cycling, the national cycling body, as reaching certain minimum standards.
