Staying Active during Lockdown

Keep fit at home (all the family)

PPYCC is affiliated with Sport England through the Clubmark scheme. Sport England’s Join the Movement campaign is designed to provide inspiration and trusted information to the public about how to get active in and around the home during lockdown.

Ready Set Ride (Inner Ring and younger siblings)

British Cycling has a daily activity calendar to keep kids moving and help them to develop new skills during lockdown. This is aimed at younger cyclists and is ideal for riders just starting out with PPYCC or younger siblings of existing members.

Ready Set Ride

Ride the rollers (all ages)

PPYCC have a number of rollers and turbos that fit junior bikes and which we can loan for free to club members . They will all need returning when the racing season resumes as we normally keep them at the track so our riders can warm up and warm down at SCRL track league on Wednesday nights. Note that roller riding is a skill which takes time and patience to learn, however it is a great skill to master, is good fun and fantastic for developing balance and pedaling style. Check out Ruby Isaac’s Youtube Channel for some cool tricks and British Cycling – Getting started on rollers.

Email chair@ppycc.org.uk to check availability if you would like to borrow one of these.

PPYCC Zwift Sessions (all ages)

For those wanting some group activity we are again running PPYCC Zwift group rides every Wednesday afternoon at 4pm. The rides are organised by one of our riders, Noah Wheller and will initially be no drop group rides with the ‘keep everyone together’ tab activated. All PPYCC and VC Jubilee youth riders are invited.

Remember Zwift is free for under 16 year olds and you don’t need a ‘smart’ turbo to join in. You can get a Bluetooth/Ant+ cadence and speed sensor for under £20 (something like this), pair it with a tablet or laptop while using rollers or any old turbo trainer. Signup at https://www.zwift.com/kids

Riders who are interested please email PPYCC parent/coach paulwheller@yahoo.com and Noah will set you up.

British Cycling Zwift talent development sessions (Youth A and B)

British Cycling Talent Development team have partnered with Zwift to offer sessions and these are available to ALL U14/U16 club members, these can be found on the British Cycling Talent Development Zwift Events page.
