Weekly club sessions
Saturday morning sessions at Preston Park run from the first Saturday in March to the last Saturday in October, offering two sessions each week exclusively for existing club members. The Under 12’s (Inner Ring) session, held from 9:00 to 10:30 am, focuses on fun, skill-building, and racing, with a gradual introduction to the Outer Ring for advanced riders. The Over 12’s (Outer Ring) session, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, provides training and race practice. Sessions cost £4.00, payable by cash or card. Participants should arrive 15 minutes early and bring appropriate gear, including a helmet, gloves, and their bike. Monthly taster sessions are available for new members.

Certificate scheme
PPYCC offers a rider certificate scheme focused on skill and performance development using British Cycling’s skills syllabus. This program tracks progression in three key areas: bike handling, core cycling, and group riding techniques. Riders work towards Level Mastery Certificates, with progress monitored by coaches during regular Saturday sessions. Although the program is not linked to rider progression between training groups, it serves as a fun and motivating way to develop cycling skills.

Distance challenge
PPYCC’s distance challenge runs several times during the season, where riders complete timed laps based on their age group (U8: 6 laps, U10: 12 laps, U12: 18 laps). Results are published on the website, allowing riders to track progress and earn bronze, silver, gold, or platinum rankings. Older riders (U14 and U16) participate in a 10-mile time trial. We also do shorter distance records such as 1-lap time trials.

Winter activities
While PPYCC is not active over winter, we recommend various winter activities for riders to maintain fitness from November to February. These include roller and turbo sessions, ideal for developing balance and pedalling efficiency, as well as cyclo-cross training and interval sessions. Interval training includes structured warm-ups and effort-based cycling sessions. Chain gang rides, focused on group pacing, are also suggested for advanced riders. These activities help riders stay conditioned during the off-season.

Training advice
PPYCC provides training advice based on age categories, from Youth D to Junior riders. Younger riders are encouraged to develop general physical and motor skills through cycling and other activities, while older riders focus on skill refinement, racing, and building endurance. As they progress, cyclists increase the intensity and frequency of their training, with some opting for personal coaching. The club also supports riders aiming for national and international competitions.
