A big congratulations to all PPYCC riders who entered Round 2 of the National Youth Omnium Series this weekend. There were events in both Portsmouth and London with 11 PPYCC riders competing.
Saturday saw some extremely blustery but sunny conditions at Portsmouth’s Mountbatten Centre. Harley and Cooper placed 1st and 2nd respectively in U12 Boys, Isla 2nd in U14 Girls and Milo 4th in U14 Boys. It was great to see lots of really intelligent and exciting racing from all involved against some tough competition.
On Sunday the fun continued with 7 more riders heading up to Herne Hill in South London. Club results included Alex 7th and Felix 9th in U12 Boys, Eddy 3rd, Noah 10th and Hadley 13th in U14 Boys and Ben 16th and Alfie 19th in U16 Boys. These were all hard earned places against very strong fields of riders in each category.
A huge well done to everyone who rode across the weekend, it’s great to see so much strength across all our age groups!
Remember that Round 3 of the National Youth Omnium Series is in Brighton on Sun 29th May. This is always a friendly and exciting day of racing, and any PPYCC riders who are gaining track racing experience at the Weds night track league during April/May should consider entering, this will be a really great experience and a rare opportunity to compete against regional riders on our home track. We would particularly encourage our girls to consider entering, PPYCC has some really talented girls throughout U8, U10, U12 and U14 age groups, many of whom are now track accredited, have attended Lee Valley sessions or started racing at SCRL. A regional omnium would be a great next step. The fields tend to be smaller in the girls categories and it would be really great if we could change that in Round 3 at Brighton!
We have set up a special page about the Brighton Omnium so please have a look, and speak to any coach if you have questions.
