We start to run out of race news from members this part of the season and so we are pleased to give some recent race results from two of our members who compete in triathlon.
JoJo Martin and Charlotte Matthews both competed the British Triathlon Under 20’s Festival held at Nottingham on Friday 22nd August 2014, organised by British Triathlon.
For those not familiar with triathlons the event consist of a swim, cycle and run. Moving from one discipline to the next is known as ‘transition’ and these are also timed, so no time to dry yourself off. For this event the swim was a dive from a pontoon into open water and the bike ride was ‘draft legal’.
Jojo had been selected to represent the SE Region in the Tristar 2 age category, having performed well over a number of triathlon events in the region this season. He had a very successful race with an overall time of 21:34, finishing 9th out of a field of 36. As expected he was fast on the bike – 7th fastest, and went on to finish with a solid run, 6th fastest.

Charlotte was competing in the Youth event and expected to be challenged by the strength of the other competitors having raced against some in London and Nottingham earlier in the year. She finished 29th out of 35 competitors in a time of 36:32 and was pleased with her performance. A slow swim meant she missed the two strong packs on the cyle course but she did a good run to pull back some places.
Split times: 400m swim 6:49 T1 0:53 10km Bike 18:40 T2 :36 2.5km Run 9:34
For Charlotte this was her third race out of a possible five over the season in the British Youth Female Super Series. She finished the season 33rd overall and will be looking forward to improving her performance next year.
