Last Saturday saw the first of the season’s races at the Cyclopark, and PPYCC had 3 riders who took part, Adam Churchill, Freddie Newman and Tom Pughe-Morgan. Below is Adam’s account of the race, with a picture of him coming up to the finish line!
March Hare Classic 2016
Yesterday I took part in the March Hare Classic alongside several other members. The event was held at Cyclopark, a circuit which I had ridden lots, so I knew the course well. The U14 race started fast with many people trying to attack the main bunch. After a series of attacks, two riders got away and managed to get a sustainable gap. Halfway through the 20 minute race, another rider attacked and I went with him. We worked together and managed to stay away until another rider bridged the gap to the group making it three riders including me. We had a gap to the main bunch who, at one point, came dangerously close to to catching us, but managed to stay away for the remainder of the race. The three of us did turns on the front attempting to bridge the gap to the two in front. We were told it was three laps to go as we went past the finish line and I knew that we wouldn’t catch them so I instead conserved my energy for the sprint. As we came around for a final time and heard the bell I was just pulling off the front and was in a perfect position. We came around the hairpin bend at the end of the circuit and I tried one last attack which was quickly closed down by both riders. It was now down to the sprint. As we swung out onto the finishing straight I started my sprint, initially taking the lead until being overtaken by one of the riders and hanging on for 4th place.
Well done to everyone from the club that took part.
