It’s nearly Omnium time!

On Sunday 18th May we’ll be welcoming over 70 riders from around the country to come and race at Preston Park. If you missed yesterday’s entry deadline and still want to take part, we can make this happen, please just email me. Hard close is Monday 5pm.

We’re almost there from an organisational point, we just need a few more helpers (listed below) – and for the sun to shine!

Volunteers

We’re still a little short on volunteers, these are essential to make the day a big success. In particular, we are short on marshals for the track perimeter/gates, and for people who can do a 1hr shift in the pavilion kitchen serving tea and cakes. If you’ve not yet put yourself forward and are around (even if for part of the day) please do let Jack know.

Cake makers

We all know that cyclists love cake, and lots of it! Cake donations on the day will be very gratefully received, these are always a big fundraiser for us. Please drop them off in the cricket pavilion kitchen on the day, we look forward to tasting some excellent creations as always.

Saturday gardeners and sweepers

Like every year, we will spend the next few Saturdays sprucing up the track for our visiting riders and families.

This Saturday (10th) we are hoping some adults can stay during Inner Ring and Outer Ring to cut down weeds around the track fencing, especially those growing through the fence. Particular attention needs to be paid to clearing out the ‘gutter’ along the home straight fencing where lots of broken glass tends to accumulate, but the entire track perimeter also needs a weed. No need to ask where to go or what to do, please just come down and get stuck in. The only thing to remember is to CUT weeds back to ground level rather than try to uproot them as doing so may damage the track edging. Please just throw cuttings in the bushes.

Next Saturday (17th) we will then do a big sweep of the grandstand steps, the front of the pavilion and right round the perimeter, paying particular attention to any glass and flints that may be on the ground and could cause punctures for visitors wheeling or riding their bikes around. We’d be hugely grateful for anyone who can grab one of the big brooms and help out!

As always, a massive thanks to our army of helpers for making our flagship annual event happen, and we look forward to a fun and exciting day of racing!
