PPYCC are once again hosting a round of the National Youth Omnium on Sunday 18th May. It would be fantastic to have as many track-accredited PPYCC riders as possible racing on the day.
For those of you not familiar with the Omnium, think of it as the decathlon of track cycling. There are five different events – Time Trial, Elimination Race, Scratch Race, Sprint and Points Race. Points are awarded for each race and totalled up at the end. U14 and U16 riders will gain series points and be eligible for selection in the national finals. We will also have a full schedule of racing for U10 and U12 riders.
We have always had a good turnout of PPYCC members enter this event across all age groups. It’s a brilliant opportunity for younger riders who are racing at the Wednesday track league to gain racing experience at a regional level. All races must be on an approved fixed wheel bike, so all entrants must be track-accredited and must have had some experience of track racing before the day. For those wanting to do so, there will be opportunities to get track-accredited on some upcoming Saturday sessions and opportunities to start track racing on Wednesday nights at Sussex Cycle Racing League (SCRL) from Weds 16th April.
Further details on what to expect and links to enter can be found on our Omnium web page. Please also feel free to discuss with our coaches at a Saturday session for more insight into, and advice on, the event.
A huge thanks to Devil’s Bykes who are this year’s prize sponsor.
As always, this event could not run without the tremendous support of all our volunteers. If you feel that you would be able to give some time to support the club on the day, please let a PPYCC coach or committee member know. No experience, just enthusiasm, required!!
