Racing roundup

Well done all riders who were out and about on the weekend, the race reports below have come through from parents and riders.

National Youth Omnium at Welwyn

Welwyn Wheelers hosted the last round of the National Youth Omnium series last Sunday. An unseasonably cold day, it was the last chance for Youth A + B riders to put in a strong finish and qualify for the final in Manchester later in the summer.

Eddy was keen to build on his second place at Preston Park, but after a couple of so so rounds he was down in 4th place 16 points off the leader. A strong finish in a very chaotic Elimination, and an easy win (his words) in the Sprint put him in first place with an eight point lead to defend in the Points race. The race didn’t disappoint and was super exciting / mathematically challenging to watch. Thankfully he’d done enough with 1 sprint win and marking of rival riders to win the event with a single point in hand.

Noah rode a predictably strong 1km TT, was unlucky in the Scratch and Elimination, but came back really well to win his Sprint heat finishing 13th overall.

Alex and Gabriel both had great rounds in the Youth B. Alex stormed to a second place in the TT, finishing in 7th. While Gabriel put in a number of solid rides and really pushed on in the Points race winning a sprint, which moved him up to 11th.

There is now a wait while BC crunch the numbers before announcing who’s qualified for the finals. Watch this space…

Thanks to Bill for the write-up.

Spring in the Park

A few riders have been travelling up to Gravesend Cyclopark for this series. This week a few were saving themselves for the National Youth Omnium on the Sunday, but Saturday saw Luke place 8th in U10 Boys and Hadley 6th in U16 Boys.

In the overall series standings after 4 events, Luke is currently 8th in U10 Boys, Hadley 8th, Luca 10th and Noah 12th in U16 Boys. There are still 3 more of the series left to run over June and July, for more info see https://springinthepark.co.uk

Chichester Triathlon

Chichester was the location for the third round of the Triathlon England South East series.

Edie did a nice summary of the day:

Chichester triathlon was a great day, a bit cloudy, but good weather for racing. The event was well organised and all the stewards and volunteers were very helpful. Five of us represented the club – Bibi in TriStar, Luke in TriStar 1, Vincent and me in TriStar 2 and Cooper in TriStar 3. There were lots of competitors, with 68 in my category! Everyone did brilliantly! Luke did fantastically and gained a podium, placing second. Bibi and Cooper got a strong top ten; and Vincent and I came top fifteen.

Cooper also added some reflections on his first top ten of the series.

In the triathlon I think it went quite well except for the swim where I was one of the slowest so I need to work on that. The bike went very well as I was the 3rd best in TS3 and the run went well also as I came 7th. I think I need to practice my transitions because it would help me gain more time on the others without putting in that much more work. I will be trying to work on my swim so that I don’t have to make up as much time in the bike and the run. Altogether I feel I did a good job making up time for my swim but if I want to get faster I will need to improve on that.

Well done to everyone on a great weekend of results 😎🎉🚀
