It was great to see so many of you at the Stanmer Cross yesterday. It was filthy, gooey, muddy. Racers included: Under 10s Bradley Burke, Sam Nicholson, Rahaul Fortescue, Toby Winterburn and Rory Burke. Under 12s Thomas Burnett, Joe Hill, Youth Jack Hoyle, Spencer Thomas, Gabriel Parle, Oskar Scarsbrook, and Ted O’Brien. The youth boys race had a particularly exciting finish. With one lap to go our own Jack Hoyle, who was one of a very impressive lead group of four, crashed twice in about 50 metres to lose contact. This left local rider Jake Marley of VCJ battling against two riders from Sutton and Darenth. As they came round on the final lap Jake had got a small but decisive lead of 30 metres and looked the strongest rider. He rounded the final bend with 20 metres to go and crashed due to a chain slip. By the time he got up the other riders were almost upon him and he did not have enough time to remount his bike. Jake grabbed his bike and ran with it, uphill, and at the last metre to the finish line was just passed by the Sutton rider, but not the Darenth. So cruel, but so exciting to watch. Some of PPYCC adult supporters were seen racing too, including: Andy Parle, Phil Burnett, Simon Scarsbrook and Anthony Rogers.
