4.  ROUTE DETAILS (subject to minor change depending on weather etc!)We will meet at Adur Outdoor Activity Centre at 10.am.The ride is planned to take place over 2 days from Shoreham to the village of Graffham (between Petworth and Midhurst) The overnight stop is at Gumber Bothy National Trust Camping Barn. The total distance is approximately 45 km. We will ride most of the route on the first day (35km). The route is almost entirely off road using the Downs Link and South Downs Way but we will ride for about 4km on the road. The only busy road section is a 1.5km ride from Amberley to Houghton which we will ride as a group with PPYCC coaches at the front and rear.Terrain.  The section of the South Downs Way we are riding is bumpy in a lot of places although there are some smooth grassy sections. The main challenge will be the three ascents and descents on route. These are tough but each ascent is slightly easier than its predecessors. Riders will be briefed on route prior to descending. Walking may be required at various points depending on the conditions.Notes for younger riders and tag bikesWe intend to offer alternative start points for younger riders and tag bike riders if required. The full route is challenging and we do not recommend that any riders under 10 years or any riders with no mountain bike experience years attempt the full route. We intend to offer alternative start points at Washington or Amberley for younger riders and tag bike riders if required. Strong parents may be able to manage the whole route pulling a tag bike but it would be a long bumpy day on the back for a child! For any questions about the ride / route or alternative start points call Charlie on 01273 503591 (evenings). Rough route details at map my ride below: www.mapmyride.com/route/gb/shoreham/8331276425768802515) What to bring on the rideWaterSnacks + picnic LunchWaterproofs/suncream etchelmetPLEASE NOTE:  All activities are carried out at your own risk and you are responsible for your children at all times!!!

Saturday 19th June sees a road ride and more Go Ride Racing; Go Ride Racing is racing aimed at beginners. If you are not a beginner and are eligible for road rides then you should take part in the road ride; arrive at 09.45 for a 10.00 departure. Go Ride Racing starts at 10.00 and so you must arrive before this to sign on. We will be joined by riders from VC Jubilee.Saturday 26th June there is no session at Preston Park as it is our residential mountain bike trip. See separate message for final details.

If you enjoyed the racing on Friday and wish to do some more, or you missed Saturday and wish to get involved, then Friday 18th June sees local Youth Only track racing at Preston Park track from 7pm. This is the first of three events with the other two being on Fridays 16th July and 13th August. Under 8 & 10 [freewheel bikes] £3. Other youths [fixed wheel bikes] £4. Further details from: www.scrl.co.uk.  ps. Yes we know football fans will spot a clash of timings for this week’s event.

A big thanks must go to the helpers for yesterday’s omnium [nearly 30 people assisted] and a big well done to our riders.Noah Ridgeway Brown has won all three of the regional omnium events he has done which, with four events, makes him the winner of the southern series. Jack Hoyle has won one and come second in three, which sees him being invited to the National Omnium Final. Laura Cheesman also completed three of the events and was lying close to getting a national final invite. These are the highest quality of events in our region and if you would like a taste of something of a similar standard then you should enter the National Circuit Champs [road racing] at the Redbridge Cycle Centre east of London, closing date 3rd July, or the SE Track Champs at Herne Hill on the 10th July; otherwise you will have to wait to next season.PPYCC Omnium Riders role call:  Laura Cheesman, Jack Hoyle, Gabriel Parle, Spencer Thomas, Douglas McCauley, Thomas Burnett, Joe Hill, Sam Booth, Isaac Wright, Nicholas Wickens, Ted O’Brien, Ben O’Brien, Matthew Deacon, Stan Abbott Stacey, Noah Ridgway Brown, Jake Blow.

August Bank Holiday 27th to 30th: We will again be travelling to the cycle festival at Mildenhall in Suffolk where we will camp, take part in bike rides, children’s games and grass track racing. A visit to the cycle jumble is a must for bargain addicts and to the pub quiz for both children and adult fact buster fans. A camping pitch is £25 for the whole weekend, unless you arrive by bicycle in which case it is £15.

If you wish to join us for a great family camping weekend, then send Anthony an email stating how many in your party and how many large pitches you need [one per family is fine]. We will book on your behalf collecting money nearer the time. Monday 22nd June is the deadline confirming you wish to be included in our central booking. More info. from http://www.mildenhallrally.org.uk/
