We regret we are unable to run any sessions on the next 2 Saturdays.
Two of our coaches, Andy and Anthony, are working at the Olympics inside the Velodrome in August and consequently have to attend a few training days in the next few weeks. This is a great honour for our club and a great reward for Andy and Anthony for all their coaching work over the years! Other coaches have holidays so unfortunately we don’t have the resources to run sessions the next two Saturdays.
However there are still plenty of opportunities to ride:
1) This coming Friday Anthony is running the regular Friday night fixed wheel session at the track
These sessions are run by the two local youth cycle clubs Preston Park Youth Cycle Club and VC Jubilee but are open to young an old. The first part of the sessions are designed to give newcomers to track cycling a little experience and comfort before they start racing.
The second session is for more experienced riders.
Novice 5.30pm to 6.30pm
Experienced 6.30pm to 8.pm
£2 Junior £3 adults
The clubs do have a selection of bikes that can be borrowed for the session for which a donation of £2 towards maintenance is requested. Bikes are available on a first come first served basis.
Riders must wear helmets and gloves, and sign in before session starts.
2) Also this Friday night. Some of the U14s / U16 are hoping to road race at the the new Cycle Park in Gravesend. Check with Charlie if you are interested. I may be able to assist with transport. You need to leave Brighton at 5.30pm and will be home around 10pm. There is racing for younger age groups but It is long way to go for a shorter E, D ,C race
3) On Saturday morning we are encouraging our riders to take part in the Downs Link Challenge starting in Shoreham
This is a great opportunity for families to ride together for a very good cause. Check out the website for details. Our Friend Dave Gerry from VCJ is the organiser
The event takes part on the Downs Link cycle path . It is almost entirely off road and can be ridden on a Cross, Mountain, or Hybrid bike. Contact Charlie if you want to borrow a tag bike suitable for a 5-7 year old.
So plenty going on. We will be back down the track on Saturday 9th June when we will be practising for the Preston Park Omnium which takes over from our session on 16th June
Sorry that there are no Saturday sessions but please keep cycling!
